This unique 5-day adventure combines the best of two worlds: the challenge of high-altitude mountaineering and the serenity of the Sahara desert. Attempt the summit of Mount Toubkal (4,167m), the highest peak in North Africa, and then travel south to the dunes of Merzouga.
In the higher elevations, you'll find alpine scenery, while the lower valleys offer walnuts, cherries, and diverse vegetation. After conquering the mountain, we will cross the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass to explore Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou and experience a sunset camel ride in Erg Chebbi.
Pick up from your hotel in Marrakech and transfer to Imlil. We begin our trek along the Mizane Valley, passing Aremd village and the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. The trail climbs steadily, zigzagging up to the snowline and the Toukbal Refuge (3206m). Night in a tent nearby the refuge. (L/D)
Early morning attempt on the summit of Jebel Toubkal. The route takes us up the south cirque. When you reach the summit, enjoy breathtaking unrestricted views in every direction. We retrace our steps down the mountain and head back towards Imlil. Night in a guesthouse in Imlil. (B/L/D)
We leave Imlil and cross the High Atlas via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Visit the UNESCO Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou. Drive through the Valley of Roses to the Dades Valley, the valley of a thousand kasbahs. Overnight in Dades. (B/D)
Drive to the impressive Todra Gorge for a short stop. Continue to the dunes of Erg Chebbi, arriving around 4 PM. Ride camels into the dunes to watch a beautiful sunset and spend the night in Berber tents with a fantastic dinner. (B/D)
View the beautiful sunrise at the camp and have breakfast. Ride camels back to the auberge. From there, it will be a long drive back to Marrakech, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka pass again. (B)
